When J. J. Klein died of heart disease, his son Dr. John Marcus Klein took over the drugstore. John had passed the state examination for pharmacy at age 17. The servants called him “The Boss Man,” and his sisters appropriated the title, always referring to him as “The Bossm’n.” John supported his mother and sisters and married Lucille McTyeire, 20 years his junior. He built a home in 1926 and died the next year of a stroke.
