Inscribed: “This Almsboxe belongeth to the Synagogue of
Kahal Kadosh of Charleston in South Carolina”

The gilded cartouche on the front of this alms box features two rampant lions, each standing on a scrolled branch, flanking a menorah. The Hebrew inscription engraved above reads “Charity will save from death,” and below, “A gift in secret pacifieth anger” (Proverbs 21:14).
