Among the treasured possessions Henrietta Block brought with her to Orangeburg when she married Lipman Rich were a porcelain pitcher and a well-wrought sterling silver “trolley bag.” Made in Bavaria, the pitcher is decorated by a brown border that mimics a popular design from the 1820s, and bucolic cows, perhaps hand-painted in America.
